First phase will be held from November 11-13 in Bento Gonçalves
The total entries registered in Salão Design Movelsul 2014 exceeded the number of participants in the 2012 competition, which featured 408 projects by 396 participants. For this edition, also held concurrently with Movelsul Brasil, 587 projects were entered by 506 participants from 15 countries including Argentina, Ecuador, Belgium, France, Bolivia, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Egypt, among others. Giving 175,000 cash prizes, the award for students, design professionals and furniture manufacturing companies, has been held for 26 years by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves.
From November 11-13, the judging panel of Salão Design Movelsul will evaluate the projects submitted. The result will be known next week, as of November 20. The selection criteria used by architects Ilse Lang and Isabela Vecci, designer and museographer Ivens Fontoura and designers Pedro Moog and Peter Marigold will include product concept, adequacy to the target public, form and function, ergonomics, finish, degree of formal and technological innovation, among other features of each projects.
Following the announcement of the entries selected for the second phase, their authors must submit life-size products or prototypes to their final evaluation. Encouraging the use of sustainable raw materials, Salão Design offers in this phase the Alternative Woods Award to the project that exhibits more socio-environmental issues. All entries that are selected for this phase and that meet the requirements set forth in the regulations, will take part in Salão Design exhibition during Movelsul Brasil 2014, from March 24 – 28 March in Bento Gonçalves.
