New York, NY – Brazilian culture has been catapulted into international recognition and is influenced by the country’s rich background in music and dance. From the legendary buildings of architect Oscar Niemeyer to the Havaianas craze that has taken the world by storm, the country of Brazil has made its mark in the world, most notably in the international design scene.
At the 2015 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), Brazil’s most prestigious designers, the Fahrer Brothers (Sergio and Jack) of Fahrer Design (www.fahrer.com.br/produtos) and Guto Indio da Costa (www.indiodacosta.com/en), are bringing their Brazilian design expertise to this leading North American venue for international global design. ’ICFF Talks’ is the design show’s speaking panel, where internationally recognized industry leaders share their knowledge on topics ranging from innovation in materials through new design approaches in color and style for residential, hospitality, contract and luxury retail environments. ICFF is taking place in New York City at The Jacob Javtiz Center from May 16-19, 2015. The Brazilian trends panel will be moderated by Carlos Junqueira and Lauro Andrade, and is scheduled for Monday, May 18 at 11am.
Fahrer Design
The dynamic duo Sergio and Jack Fahrer were born to be designers Sergio Fahrer started his career as musician and studied in Los Angeles at MIT (Musicians institute of Technology). He quickly discovered his artistic sensibility, and his trademark designs were inspired by the technique of musical instruments construction. Sergio is widely considered one of the most expressive names in Brazilian contemporary design. His brother Jack Fahrer, also a musician, studied fashion design in Brazil before joining Sergio to create and design furniture. Jack’s expressive eye for colors and prints complements the Fahrer’s Brothers acclaimed pieces.
From the early days of developing signature design techniques, to discussing the tension between the material and design aspects as it relates to Brazil, the Fahrer Brothers will speak about their illustrious career and the evolving Brazilian design scene. They will also discuss designing for public spaces including such notable projects Comedorias SESC; Hotels Unique and Fasano; Parklets and Jardim Pop up; as well as museum exhibitions including the MoMA, Museum Le Corbusier, the Milan Fair, Oca, Biennial of Design, Maison & Objet.
Guto Indio Da Costa
Innovation and passion is the driving force in every project that Guto Indio designs. In college, he studied product design and graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Switzerland in 1993. He is currently the design director of Indio da Costa A.U.D.T, an international awarded consultancy based in Rio de Janeiro, which develops architecture, urban planning, design and transportation projects while operating with a multidisciplinary strategic-creative group of designers, architects and urban planners, supported by a variety of specialists. Guto Indio da Costa will showcase his design talent at ICFF, and speak about such topics as the changing landscape of Brazilian design, high-scale industrial projects, and his projects including From world to Brazil and Brazil to world, Awards Salão Design/ Idea Brasil/ MCB.

Lauro Andrade — A veteran in the design world, is the Executive Director of Expo Revestir, Brazil’s premier architecture expo; as well as the Founder of DW! SÃO PAULO DESIGN WEEK. Andrade is a also partner in Sindmóveis organization.
Carlos Junqueira — Owner of ESPASSO (http://espasso.com/), a world-renowned furniture company specializing in modern and contemporary Brazilian pieces. ESSPASO was one of the first companies to dedicate a showroom exclusively for Brazilian designers. ESPASSO has been so successful in US market and has showrooms in New York and Los Angeles.
During ICFF and the other Fairs during Design Week in New York, Sindmóveis, an association of furniture industry, that promotes suppliers of furniture and furniture designers in the international market, together with the partnership of Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency that promotes Brazilian products and services abroad, are supporting these emerging Brazilian designers development.
Both companies will be assisting Fahrer Design and Guto Indio Da Costa by arranging meetings with American manufacturers and licensing agents to further develop their brand presence and grow these designers businesses’ in the US market.
