16/03/2016

Trade visitors from Brazil and 35 other countries have visited the 20th Movelsul Brasil, the major fair of furniture and accessories in Latin America. Until Friday, March 18, Brazilian manufacturers of furniture and accessories will gather in Bento Gonçalves to display the main innovations of the sector. Just like in 2014, the fair is estimated to generate approximately $300 million in business over a period of 12 months. Major brands such as Bertolini, Tramontina, Dalmobile, Kappesberg, Madesa, Carraro, Sandrin, Artefama, Herval Group and Gazin are among the 238 exhibiting companies. An estimated 30,000 people are expected to attend the five-day event.

The projects carried out this year include the Buyer’s Project. Thirty importers from Argentina, Bulgaria, Qatar, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, United States, France, Morocco, Mexico, Mozambique, Panama, Paraguay and Saint Martin take part in business meetings with 120 Brazilian companies. Despite the crisis scenario, exports are expected to boost the sector economy, since the forecast suggests that the project will generate $35 million in business. "Regarding the world furniture imports – approximately $160 billion – Brazil accounts for less than 0.5% of this market share. There is great potential and Brazilian exports still have much room to grow. In addition, the devaluation of the real against the dollar gives Brazil a very competitive edge. Therefore, we are investing a lot in the overseas market as a way to boost business in this year’s show," said the president of Sindmóveis,

An initiative developed by Sindimóveis Bento Gonçalves in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), the Buyer’s Project has been held since 2000 between Brazilian companies and foreign buyers. In addition to the exhibiting brands, the meetings this year will have the participation of the member companies of the Brazilian Furniture Project, organized by the Brazilian Association of Furniture Industry (Abimóvel) and Apex-Brasil to encourage Brazilian furniture exports.

Moreover, Movelsul Brasil this year will feature the Senai Innovation Grand Prix, where three multidisciplinary teams compete to find solutions for the woodworking industry. The idea is to propose a technological innovation network to receive, select and create ideas, concepts and prototypes. In this year’s Gran Prix, each team consisting of seven members has the mission to develop projects focused on energy, water, waste and safety.

Sponsored by Duratex, Renner Sayerlack and Banrisul,  Movelsul Brasil 2016 brings together manufacturers of furniture for offices, kitchens, bedrooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms, living and dining rooms in addition to garden furniture, home appliances, rugs, upholstered goods and mattresses. Open to trade visitors (shopkeepers, sales representatives, architects, interior designers, importers, building firm representatives and the press), the fair is open until next Friday, from noon to 8pm at Parque de Eventos in Bento Gonçalves. More about Movelsul Brasil

Held since 1977 by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves, the year when the furniture industry became the leading economic activity in the Bento Gonçalves, Movelsul Brasil has totaled more than 1.5000 exhibitors throughout its history. The Primeira Mostra do Mobiliário in Bento Gonçalves, as it was called back then, brought together 24 local furniture manufacturers. In 1988, the event started to be called Movelsul, bringing together more than 100 exhibitors. This year also marked the first Salão Design, which also celebrates its 20 editions in 2016. The internationalization of the fair was consolidated in 2000, when  the first Buyer’s Project was held. The initiative of Sindmóveis, in partnership with Apex-Brasil, allows Brazilian companies to have business meetings directly with importers from various countries. In 2012, the event adopted the model followed by the main trade fairs in the world, such as the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile and IMM Cologne, segmenting its exhibitors by product categories. Consequently, attendees optimize their visiting time, increasing their purchasing power and decision-making process.
