Registrations for the 20th Salão Design Award open next Monday, August 10.
This commemorative edition also marks the 20th anniversary of the Alternative Woods award, which encourages the use of the Brazilian wood diveristy. The "Salão Design, for those who have the design under their skin" concept enhanced the idea that the award is intended to those who actually see design as an essential form of expression and a tool to show their style to the world.
Held since 1988 by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves, the award encourages creativity, entrepreneurship and technological innovation of furniture and accessories through design. Over 27 years, 12,058 projects were entered and the 20th Salão Design will give R$ 205,000 cash prizes divided among the Student, Professional and Industry categories.
Just like the previous editions, competitors may enter projects in seven
categories: Furniture for bedrooms; Furniture for living and dining rooms; Furniture for kitchens, laundry rooms and bathrooms; Furniture for outdoor areas; Furniture for offices and home-offices (including furniture for commercial and public spaces); Household utensils and Lighting.
The award management calls attention to a number of changes in the regulations. The main one is the participation of the award winners and projects selected for the second phase in two shows: in March 2016, at the 20th Movelsul Brasil, and in August, at High Design – Home & Office Expo in São Paulo. In addition, the Alternative Woods award will give a special prize offered by the Brazilian Forest Service, consisting of a visit to its headquarters in Brasília and areas with forest management and wood processing in Rondônia.
