The Salão Design Award, the major product design award in Latin America, will once again have an important participation in the São Paulo design week, featuring a booth at the High Design – Home&Office Expo, Aug 28-30. In addition to the exhibition of the award winners, the Salão Design booth will have talks on consumption and internationalization. This year’s competition awarded were 12 cash prizes, three honorable mentions, an Alternative Woods Award and a Master Teacher Trophy.
Taking into account requirements such as originality, form and function, ergonomics, finishing, safety and sustainability, the Salão Design Award recognizes the talent of students, professionals and manufacturing companies at an international level. This year, the award winners were from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
The director of the Salão Design Award, Eduardo Nuncio, emphasizes the historical importance of this initiative, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018 and was established in the heart of the Serra Gaúcha, in Bento Gonçalves, where the largest Brazilian furniture producing area is located. "Our purpose is to integrate designers with manufacturing companies, in addition to valuing student research, reflecting year after year the evolution of production processes and revealing new talents to the market," he points out.
This year’s Salão Design Award, whose winners will be exhibited at High Design Expo, featured a broad range of typologies, including multiuse pieces for several different applications in living spaces: from armchairs to cutlery and even portable veranda furniture. The judging panel consisted of designers Brunno Jahara, Bruno Faucz, Leticia Grisa, Nicole Tomazi and Salvatore Figliuzzi.
